SYMPTOMS

After updating a Windows XP system to Service Pack 2 or installing DiscJuggler on a Windows XP Service Pack 2 system, other systems can no longer see the networking technologies of DiscJuggler Professional Edition and/or DiscJuggler.NET.

CAUSE

Service Pack 2 for Windows XP contains advanced security technologies which could be enabled by default. The Windows Firewall blocks communications on port 3700 of the TCP and UDP protocols in use by the Padus Network Server.

RESOLUTION

1. Open the Security Center by navigating to Start -> Settings -> Control Panel -> Security Center.

2. Click on the "Windows Firewall" link in the "Manage security settings for" section.

3. Switch to the "Exceptions" tab of the Windows Firewall window.

4. Click on the "Add Port" button of the Exceptions tab.

5. Configure "Add a Port" with a "Port number" set to the port in use by the Padus Network Server (default: 3700), set the protocol to "TCP", and choose a name you can recognize for this exception. Press "OK" button.

Note: Additional security can be added by using the "Change scope" feature and limiting what systems and/or networks are allowed in this exception.

6. Click on the "Add Port" button of the Exceptions tab.

7. Configure "Add a Port" with a "Port number" set to the port in use by the Padus Network Server (default: 3700), set the protocol to "UDP", and choose a name you can recognize for this exception. Press "OK" button.

Note: Additional security can be added by using the "Change scope" feature and limiting what systems and/or networks are allowed in this exception.

8. Enable each exception by selecting both in the Exceptions list.

9. Back on the client system press the "Update list" button of the Padus Network Console to now see the server sharing drives over the network.

STATUS

This issue has been resolved through proper configuration of the new security technologies in Windows XP Service Pack 2.
